What is Ethereum (ETH)?
Ethereum is the largest smart-contract blockchain, launched in 2015. Ether (ETH) is its native asset — used to pay transaction fees, secure the network through staking, and serve as collateral across decentralised finance. At XBTFX, ETH is one of our core deposit assets and a supported MT5 base currency, so your trading capital and P&L can stay denominated in Ether from end to end.
Supported ETH Networks
Choose the network that's cheapest and fastest from your sending wallet. XBTFX charges zero deposit and withdrawal fees on ETH — you pay only the underlying network fee.
| Network | Standard | Typical Confirm | XBTFX Fee | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ETH on Ethereum The original Ethereum chain. Highest security and broadest wallet support — also the most expensive in gas fees. | Mainnet (L1) | ~1–3 min | Free | Deposit |
| ETH on Base Coinbase's L2 — typically the cheapest and fastest way to send ETH. Settles back to Ethereum mainnet. | L2 | ~5 sec | Free | Deposit |
| ETH on Arbitrum Ethereum L2 with the largest TVL. Cheap fees, Ethereum-grade security. | L2 | ~30 sec | Free | Deposit |
| Each network is a different chain. Always confirm the network in your sending wallet matches the deposit address shown in the XBTFX portal — sending ETH on the wrong network can result in permanent loss of funds. Wrapped ETH (WETH) tokens and ETH on unsupported chains are not deposit assets. XBTFX charges zero deposit and withdrawal fees on ETH; only the underlying network fee applies. | ||||

Questions
Ethereum Deposit Questions
Common questions about depositing Ethereum (ETH) and trading forex with an ETH-denominated account at XBTFX.
-
Can I deposit Ethereum and trade forex on XBTFX?
Yes. XBTFX accepts ETH deposits on Ethereum mainnet, Base, and Arbitrum, and lets you trade forex, metals, indices, energies, share CFDs, and crypto CFDs. ETH deposits are credited to your XBTFX account, where you can transfer to any MT5, cTrader, or xPro trading account — including an ETH-denominated MT5 account where every position settles its P&L in Ether.
-
Which Ethereum networks does XBTFX support for ETH?
XBTFX supports native ETH on three networks: Ethereum mainnet (L1), Base (L2), and Arbitrum (L2). All three deliver the same ETH on the same overall ecosystem — they differ in fees, speed, and which network the funds live on. The deposit address you generate in the client portal is network-specific; always confirm the network in your sending wallet matches before broadcasting.
-
Is there a fee to deposit ETH to my XBTFX account?
XBTFX charges zero deposit fees on every supported ETH network. You only pay the underlying gas / network fee, which is typically a fraction of a cent on Base and Arbitrum, and several dollars on Ethereum mainnet depending on congestion.
-
Can I run an ETH-denominated trading account?
Yes. XBTFX MT5 accounts can be opened with ETH as the base currency on both Edge and Standard account types. Every position you take — EUR/USD, XAU/USD, Nasdaq 100, share CFDs, even other crypto CFDs — settles its P&L in ETH. Your stack stays in Ether.
-
Why trade with an Ethereum base account?
If you measure your wealth in ETH rather than dollars, an ETH base account removes the constant USD ↔ ETH conversion that otherwise cuts into every deposit, withdrawal, and rebalance. You can also offset directional ETH exposure by going short ETH/USD CFD on the same account while running long forex, metals, or index positions.
-
How fast are ETH deposits credited?
ETH deposits are auto-credited as soon as the transaction reaches the required confirmations. Base and Arbitrum are usually credited within seconds to about a minute. Ethereum mainnet typically takes 1–3 minutes after the tx is mined.
-
Does XBTFX charge for ETH withdrawals?
XBTFX does not charge a withdrawal fee on ETH — you only pay the underlying network fee. Withdrawal requests are processed within 24 hours on business days. Choose Base or Arbitrum if you want to minimise the network cost on the outgoing transaction.
-
Is ETH the same on every network?
Economically yes — 1 ETH is 1 ETH whether it lives on mainnet, Base, or Arbitrum. But the contracts and chain state are different on each network and they are not interchangeable on-chain. If you send ETH on Arbitrum to a Base address (or any other mismatch), the funds can be lost. Always match the network on both sides of the transfer. Wrapped ETH (WETH) tokens and ETH on unsupported chains are not deposit assets.
Important Information
- Each ETH network is a distinct chain. Always match the network in your sending wallet to the address generated in the XBTFX client portal — sending ETH on the wrong network can result in permanent loss of funds.
- Wrapped ETH (WETH) and ETH on networks other than Ethereum mainnet, Base, or Arbitrum are not supported deposit assets.
- XBTFX charges zero deposit and withdrawal fees on ETH. Standard network / gas fees apply on all chains.
- Withdrawal requests are processed within 24 hours on business days.
- ETH is a volatile asset. An ETH-denominated trading account exposes account equity to ETH price movement in addition to your trading P&L.
