Margin & leverage

Predictable margin tiers,
based on exposure.

Your account balance does not determine your leverage. Each symbol has a published margin schedule. As exposure increases, only the additional amount in the next band uses the higher margin rate.

This model is also known as dynamic leverage.

  • Not balance-based

Deposits and account growth do not move a position into another band.

  • Applied incrementally

Crossing a threshold does not reprice exposure already in earlier bands.

  • Published per symbol

EURUSD, gold and Bitcoin each follow their own visible schedule.

One clear rule

Exposure is measured per symbol.

If you have more than one EURUSD position, they use the EURUSD schedule together. GBPUSD exposure does not consume an EURUSD band; it follows the separate GBPUSD schedule.

  1. 1

    Choose a symbol

Every instrument has its own notional thresholds and margin rates.

  2. 2

    Exposure fills the bands

Total exposure in that symbol is allocated from the first band upward.

  3. 3

Additional size uses the next rate

Earlier portions retain their existing band rate when a threshold is crossed.

Published schedule

EURUSD, band by band.

The first band receives the lowest margin rate. Each additional slice is margined using the rate for the band it occupies.

Designed to be knowable

What changes—and what does not.

Does not determine the band

  • Your account balance
  • A deposit or withdrawal by itself
  • Exposure held in a different symbol

Does determine the band

  • The symbol being traded
  • Total notional exposure in that symbol
  • The published thresholds for that symbol

Pro and Standard accounts use exposure-based margin tiers. Maximum leverage and band thresholds vary by instrument.

Margin tier FAQ

Use the current Trading Conditions and platform specification as the reference for a specific symbol.

Does my account balance determine my leverage?
No. The published margin schedule is based on exposure in each symbol, not on the balance of your account. Pro and Standard accounts use this exposure-based model.
Are the bands applied per trade or per symbol?
Per symbol. Positions in EURUSD are evaluated together against the EURUSD schedule. Exposure in another symbol uses that symbol’s own schedule.
What happens when EURUSD exposure crosses a band?
The schedule is incremental. The portion already allocated to an earlier band keeps that band’s margin rate; only the additional exposure in the next band uses its rate.
Do all symbols have the same bands?
No. Each symbol has its own published thresholds and margin rates. Forex, metals, indices, energies, stock CFDs and crypto CFDs can have different schedules.
Where can I verify the current schedule?
Use the XBTFX Trading Conditions page or the symbol specification inside your trading platform. Those sources show the current bands for each symbol.
Why is this sometimes called dynamic leverage?
The platform term describes how the effective leverage changes as exposure fills successive margin bands. On this page we also call it exposure-based margin because that more directly explains what changes.

Important risk information

Leverage magnifies both profits and losses. Margin requirements and published schedules may change under the Client Agreement and applicable market conditions. Check the current symbol specification and Trading Conditions before trading.
